Can I hide sidebar of expert template?

Hi there,

actually the question is already in subject.

Is it possible to fully hide the sidebar in the expert template? I have tried to switch of the appropriate modules which of course disappear, but the actual placeholder for this sidebar ist stil visible. I would like to fully hide the sidebar so it's not visible /not there any more.

Can you please tell me if possible and how to do this?
